The label of Trans AndinaCarmenere wine from Chile refers to the historic Ferrocarril Transandino railway, which once connected Chile and Peru, crossing the majestic Andes.
The railway motif on the label symbolises the challenging yet fascinating journey, connecting different cultures and regions, much like the wine’s own creation process. Carmenere, a grape variety that has found a home in Chile, represents the unique Chilean terroir.
The label, incorporating graphic elements related to the railway, evokes a sense of adventure and the discovery of new paths.
The railway reached an altitude of 4,817 metres above sea level at the Galera Tunnel in Peru, making it the highest railway line in the world for many years. Builders faced extremely difficult terrain, steep slopes, avalanches, and thin air, which significantly complicated the construction process.
During construction, materials were often carried by mules and workers, as machines could not cope with the harsh conditions. The design and construction of the Peruvian section were led by Ernest Malinowski, a British engineer of Polish descent, renowned for his courage and ingenuity.
